GrassKit is an Editor-based grass generator for creating customizable, stylized grass directly inside Unity. Shape individual blades and patches, configure variation, wind, interaction, lighting, outlines and LODs, then export the result as a ready-to-use prefab. Generation is deterministic, giving you predictable results that can be regenerated and adjusted whenever needed.
GrassKit was built around broad platform compatibility. Many grass solutions rely on compute shaders, runtime generation or other specialized systems. GrassKit instead bakes your grass into conventional meshes with three LODs and animates them through vertex shaders. There are no compute shaders, tessellation, runtime mesh generation, Jobs, Burst or transparent grass textures required—making the generated grass suitable for projects ranging from mobile and handheld devices to desktop and consoles.
FEATURES:
- Editor: A window with a visualizer that allows you to edit grass settings and see the result instantly.
- Blade Shape: You can control Blade height, width, variation, segments, thinness multiplier from root to tip...
- Grass Patch: You can control how a patch of blades behave with Shape, Edge Falloff, Blades/m²...
- Variation: You can control the Lean, Stiffness from root to tip, Color variation of the blades...
- Wind simulation: Define a horizontal world-space X/Z wind direction together with Strength, Speed, Gust Strength, Spatial Scale, and Flexibility. Material-local wind works without scripts, while the optional runtime controller can provide global weather-driven wind.
- Physics interaction: GrassKit supports up to 8 interactors that can bend the grass and leave a Trail when they move, useful to create footsteps impact and trail.
- Lighting: You can control Backlight Translucency, Specular Color/Strength...
- Outline: GrassKit supports native Outline controls like Edge Thickness, Outline Color and Middle line support...
- LODs: 3 LODs are auto generated and you can control the properties of each (Density multiplier, Override Segment Count, Width Compensation...) to balance visuals vs performance, each LOD exposes its Vertices and Triangles count to make it easy to understand the geometrical complexity.
GrassKit is designed to keep grass simple, predictable and portable. Create the look you want in the Editor, tune its LODs and interaction, then use the generated prefab like any other environment asset. Whether you're targeting mobile, handheld, desktop or console, GrassKit gives you a flexible stylized grass workflow without tying your project to runtime generation or specialized GPU features.
And.. if you need a tool to mass place your Grass prefabs (or any Prefab really) we have something that does exactly that and more, please check out PlaceKit.
