Editor's Cut

Pros

This asset is widely praised for its high-quality, stylized visuals, excellent performance, and robust feature set, which includes a highly effective cubemap blend shader for day/night cycles and superior fog support that outperforms standard Unity skybox shaders. It is highly versatile, easy to implement for basic use cases, and offers a significant aesthetic upgrade for low-poly and casual game projects, making it an exceptional value as a free resource.
While the visual quality is top-tier for a free asset, the broken scripts and lack of documentation make it a risky dependency for production environments unless you are prepared to manually debug and refactor the shader code yourself.

Cons

The asset suffers from significant technical debt, specifically regarding broken scene scripts, missing documentation for advanced implementation, and compatibility issues with Unity's shader compilation and IntelliSense. Users frequently report frustration with setup, particularly when attempting to control skybox transitions via script or resolving shader errors in newer Unity versions, indicating a lack of maintenance and professional-grade support.

○ Overview

The Skybox Cubemap Extended shader, built with Amplify Shader Editor, allows you to add height-based fog, and rotation animation to your cubemap skies, and blend 2 cubemaps together. The shaders also work better in orthographic than Unity’s built-in skybox cubemap shader.

🛈 Skybox created using Polyverse Skies. Polyverse Skies • Low Poly Skybox Shaders and Textures offer perspective and orthographic camera support, a 3 color gradient background, sky pattern overlays, animated clouds, sun and moon, twinkling stars, Unity’s built-in fog, and high-quality textures even at 4K gaming!
